Torsion Springs
Torsion springs use stored mechanical energy to tighten and twist, creating a natural force that propels your garage door when you lift and close it. They are above the garage door. These springs are simple and cost-efficient, though they require periodic servicing and replacement as they encounter changing weather conditions and cycle life. They will also need lubrication or replacement if they begin squeaking or loosening. When choosing a torsion spring replacement for a garage, make sure it can exert enough force to offset the door’s weight. It is very important to obtain the weight of the door for proper function. You can use a home scale to weigh the door if needed. Just place the scale under the center of the door to get the weight, then give us the door size (width and height) and we calculate the proper size spring needed for replacement.
Choose the Correct Size:
Measure 20 coils to determine spring wire gauge. Please measure the wire diameter, outer diameter and length of the spring when the spring is not stressed.
Replace Broken Springs
– Use this steel left hand ( red cone) and right hand (black cone) wound torsion spring to replace broken garage door springs. It includes stationary and winding cones
Requires
– The use of 2 winding rods for replacement. When dual spring installations are involved, it is important to correctly install both the left and right wind springs during the same job
Selection
– Torsion springs provide lifting force for heavy garage doors and must be selected by the spring’s dimensions, rather than the door’s weight. Use the spring selection guide to assure the proper replacement part has been selected
Mounting
- Right hand springs are mounted to left side of center and left hand springs are mounted to the right side of center (inside the garage looking out)
Torsion springs are black coated, corrosion resistant, oil tempered springsHigh Quality:The spring part is made of heat-treated spring steel and black coated. The lightweight aluminum stationary & winding cones are more tightly connected to the bracket and can reduce the wear of the spring.
For use on doors 7' or 8' high doors with 4" standard lift drums. Engineered for maximum application range. Minimum 10,000 cycles, at +/- 7.5 lbs of target door weight. Springs are made of steel coils with aluminum cones.
To ensure the of the correct spring size you will need please see charting measurements below:
